Fanya Daniels: Baby Boy
I decided to watch, "Baby Boy," I have been waiting for a long time to express how women are portrayed in this movie. When you watch this movie you see nothing but ignorance in this movie. The women in this movie is weak and the women seem to rely on the man in this movie...more so that even when the man would do wrong to these women in the movie they would still put up with them. I n my opinion I would call them weak!! I don't believe in many who cheats and lies and makes a woman have their baby! This is an African American movie where it shows how the man has grown in his life and his relationships. It shows that there are these type of women are willing to put up with weak minded men and childish. I didn't like the way this movie portrayed women because they make it seem as if we don't have a mind of our own or we cant go with out a man.

While I agree with you, Fanya, about how abhorrent both the men's and women's behaviors are in this movie, I really don't think that it was meant to portray all African American men and women in this light, but rather to hold a mirror up to people, to make them see the immaturity of their behavior, and get them to grow up. I also think that "Baby Boy" is meant to be a commentary on African American gender relations and how they relate to one another. John Singleton is a good filmmaker, and I really don't think he depicted the characters the way he did to pander to stereotypes, but to convey a 'wake up' call for both sides to grow up. :)
